CNA Programs – Becoming a CNA in Missouri
A Certified Nursing Assistant or CNA is someone who works in a hospital, a nursing home, or a private home caring for those who are unable to adequately care for themselves. The state of Missouri requires that CNAs attend training classes. These training classes are taught in community colleges, hospitals, and nursing homes. CNAs are to complete 175 hours of instruction, 100 of which are clinical hours. A person needs to be at least 18 and able to read, write, and follow directions. A high school diploma or GED is not required to take the CNA training classes in Missouri.
Some CNAs get hired at nursing homes which offers the classes and gets certified while working as nursing assistants. Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri, has several campuses and has the state-approved 8-13 week classes. Some of the required classes may be offered online and in the evenings to offer more flexibility with scheduling. After completing the coursework, you will take the test to become a CNA. The examiner of the test may have you take vital signs and make a hospital bed. After becoming certified, your name will be placed on the state registry for certified nursing assistants and you can renew your certification every two years.
