Becoming a Certified Nursing Aide is an excellent way to join the fast-growing medical field. Being a CNA provides many job opportunities, including working in a hospital, long-term care or mental health facility, or even working one-on-one with patients as a home health aide. Job security is high in the medical field, and becoming a CNA is can also be a step to advancement in nursing.
Nursing aides can often be certified in as little as four to six weeks, and CNA courses are not very expensive. Many people even qualify for financial assistance. Schools often offer financial aid and scholarships to help with tuition, and employers may pay for training or reimburse you for your costs after you are successfully certified.
There are several different avenues available to pursue certification in Corpus Christi. Local colleges and high schools offer CNA classes. In addition, many local nursing centers offer CNA certification programs on site. All of these programs will meet the state’s basic requirements for certification: 75 accredited hours of course work, and 100 hours of clinical rotation.
After completing the course work and clinical rotation, the candidate takes the state exam. After passing the exam, the CNA is placed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry.
Texas requires a current background check, a photo ID, two finger print cards, and two passport-sized photos to certify. A negative TB skin test and proof of immunizations, as well as a high school diploma or GED are also required.
