Where to Get Free CNA Classes

The best way to get free can classes, is to do on-the-job training. Many hospitals, old-age homes and frail-care facilities offer training, as long as you agree to work for them for a specified amount of time. This is stipulated in a formal work contract.

What Are Your Options?

If hospitals and care facilities do not have vacancies for staff, then they will probably offer free training, in exchange for your free labor. You won’t be working full-time for them, it will be more like helping out on a volunteer basis. Even though you won’t earn money, the experience and knowledge will count towards the requirements you need to get C N A certification.

If you are low on funds, you will probably want to restrict your hunt for suitable free CNA training to local hospitals, or to institutions that are easy to commute to. Depending on the circumstances in your area, the may not be any form of free training available.

In such a case, you should systematically go through the phonebook and find out which hospitals in your area offer local regional occupation programs. These programs aren’t free, as such, but are subsidized, and are more affordable than going to a nursing college.

Government Programs

In the United States, there a couple of government initiatives and programs aimed at providing job skills training, to ensure that people who have lost their jobs, can learn new skills or improve on their old ones. The Job Corp program is one such plan that offers free CNA classes.

Make inquiries at your local municipality, or visit your state’s homepage to see what programs are available. The nursing industry is a niche in the work market that almost guarantees that you will find work once you are qualified. Nursing is a profession with a high turnover of staff, so there are almost always positions available in every major hospital or clinic.

Getting Experience from Related Professions

If there are limited positions available in your area for free C N A training, consider doing a St. John’s Ambulance course. This is aimed at people wishing to become paramedics. Being a paramedic has its own risks, but the training and experience will look good on your application for C N A training. It will also help you get a permanent job in a hospital.

Volunteering at your local Fire and Rescue Department will at least give you first aid skills and real life experience dealing with trauma patients.

Use Contacts

Use any contacts you have in the health care industry to at least get you enrolled in a free C N A training course, or on the list for one. If a contact can vouch that you are indeed trustworthy and hardworking, you should stand a good chance of completing your training for free.
