First of all, you need to make sure that you have either your high school diploma or equivalent GED and be at least 18 years of age to be considered to be able to be trained to be a CNA. You will also need to make sure that the CNA training program that you plan on attending is accredited and approved by the state of Alaska.

When it comes to CNA courses in the state of Alaska, the credit hour requirements for each of the CNA training programs have to have a total of 140 hours. These 140 credit hours are divided between 80 hours of clinical training and 60 hours of classroom training.

Skills you will learn during CNA Training in the State of Alaska

The several things you will need to learn in the CNA training program are some basic nursing skills which include:

• Taking and recording temperature
• Pulse and respiratory rate
• Monitoring body functions
• Blood pressure
• Administer treatments and medications delegated by an LPN or RN
• Learn how to care for patients with cognitive disorders

After completing a CNA training program approved by the state of Alaska, you will then take State’s Nurse Aide Competency Exam. After passing this exam, you can then call yourself a certified nursing assistant and be able to gain employment working as a CNA in nursing home, assisted living programs, home health aide, and such related employable facility. The median annual salary for a CNA in the state of Alaska is $31,300. The median hourly wage is $15.04.
